At The Farm Stand on Russell Road, we’re passionate about crafting wholesome, handmade sourdough bread using only the purest ingredients. Our traditional loaves are made without added salt or sugar, unless naturally included in mix-ins like cheddar, fruit, or herbs—and we’re proud of that choice!

But why do we leave them out? Let’s break it down:

Contrary to popular belief, salt is not essential in sourdough bread.

Here’s why we choose to leave it out:

  • Naturally Flavorful: Our wild sourdough fermentation brings out the natural, complex flavors in the flour. Many of our customers say they don’t even miss the salt!

  • Faster Fermentation: Salt slows down the fermentation process. By omitting it, we allow our sourdough cultures to develop more quickly and robustly—giving you that tangy, chewy perfection.

  • Customizable: Prefer a salty loaf? No problem—salted loaves are available upon request! We believe in giving our customers the flexibility to choose what works best for them.
